Tipper - Tippermusic.net

Tipper makes music for sound systems, with a diversity that ranges from bass fuelled electro-breaks, to hip-hop, to intricately programmed downtempo, to full orchestral compositions etc; music that demands to be played at high volumes to unleash their lethal potential. With a musical background in classical training, and listing influences from drum & bass, to hip-hop, to electronica, Tipper has created his own brand of devastating dancefloor bombs and after club ear-teasers. He is admired for being "streaks ahead," and his "expertly crafted" productions are dubbed as being "frightening yet refreshing - if it doesn't move you check for a pulse."

In a rare promotional appearance in support of his two new albums -Tip Hop and Relish the Trough - he will be playing two unique sets. Sat night -TIp Hop breaky funk wunk and Sunday evening - a rare hand crafted twilight set (Not to be missed).

Lorin - Bassnectar - http://www.bassnectar.net/

Since back in the early days of full moon forest action, lorin has been creating and distributing potions of glitchy, wobbly bassalchemy. He currently resides in berkeley, where he is enrolled in lambada classes with his dancepartner: Mr Subwoofer.

Jeno ~ Wicked, Grayhound

Born in london in the mid-sixties and citing his mum's far out record collection as a major early influence, Jenö has always had a magical relationship with music. A relationship that has been strengthened by his unconventional upbringing, his five chaotic years as a punk musician and then his head first fall into the warehouse scene of the mid-eighties. It was here that he begged and borrowed his first records and turntables, developing a passionate love for dance music that led to many memorable gigs (including his own heady "Whoosh" parties) and spontaneous adventures, often with his old mates from the now infamous "Tonka Sound System".
After heading to San Francisco in the early 90's in search of a more psychedelic groove, he and several friends began the now legendary "Full Moon" parties. The friendly vibe and hedonistic atmosphere found at these free outdoor events attracted a large and diverse crowd of people, and set the tone for the future of the electronic dance music scene in Northern California.
Inspired by the 60's drenched, jazz laden, funk driven and disco'd out sounds of San Francisco's past, Jeno along with the other "Wicked" dj's has helped define an eclectic and soulful musical style that was the original sound of San Francisco.

Garth ~ Wicked, Grayhound - His involvement/residencies at seminal San Francisco parties Wicked, Come Unity, Full Moons, Roots, Together & Back2Back since moving from London in 1990 have earned him a special place in American party lore. His love for timeless disco of all varieties coupled with renegade party know-how have kept him in demand for almost two decades.

Wicked's wild & free Full Moon parties ushered in an era of Acid House hysteria that ripped through the west coast and spread into the heartland. The Wicked crew (Garth, Jeno, Markie & Thomas) are credited widely with having kick started the city's dance scene in the early 90's saving it from a musical (Grateful) dead end.

Garth's wide musical palette takes in Acid Rock, Disco, Dub Reggae, House & Electro & he's not shy about playing them all in one night, finding the common thread that transcends genres. He travels the world extensively lugging a crate or two of his favorite vinyl to Japan, Spain, England, Mexico, Canada, Australia, even Indonesia & Malaysia bringing the magic wherever he's needed.

Thomas ~ Wicked/ Mirror Boys/Rub N Tug

Thomas began DJing as a teenager in the 80's along-side Harvey at Tonka HiFi. His first record 'No Hastle From The Man' took 6 months to make with fellow Cambridge eccentric Tim Love Lee. The rock revival was on!
In '91 he was invited to catch a Greyhound bus from DC & stay with his mate Garth in San Francisco, which led to a 5 year layover in California where he joined the fledgling Wicked Sound System.
He started his own cinematic down tempo club The Black Diamond in 1995 which resulted in records for Tummy Touch & Pussy Foot.
He then moved East to New York in '96 and formed 'A.R.E. Weapons'. They signed to Rough Trade but lameness set in. So along with his new hench-man Eric Duncan, he formed The Disco Theatre Of Manhattan; a collective of anarchist weirdos from the island who loosely gather around the 'Camp Fire' at the party known as Rub n Tug.
All this time he secretely recorded dance cuts for Grayhound under the moniker Mirror Boys (he decided he was plural when looking in the mirror (?)).
In 2005 something must have happened to his metabolism for a slew of ridiculous records appeared - remixes of Beastie Boys, Chicago, Out Hud & !!!. A live mix CD & album for Eskimo introduced Rub n Tug to a wider audience and then there was that rock revival album with Harvey as Map of Africa!
Basically he is awesome and contrary to common belief, quite sane.

DJ Markie Mark ~ Wicked - http://www.djmarkiemark.com/

Markie's twenty-year DJ career encompasses the founding of the Tonka (UK) and Wicked (SF) Sound Systems, numerous national and international DJ engagements as well as remixing, producing and engineering dance music. Markie's unique vision and engineering and production skills can already be heard on a number of releases on such labels as Honchos, Grayhound Recordings, Green Gorilla Recordings, and Twisted Roots.

Markie's recent collaborations with fellow Wicked stable mate Garth have led to a number of exciting remixes and original work . Other collaborations include San Francisco Djs such as Polywog, TK Disco, the live band Pancake Circus, and Markie's own band, Defenders of the Faith.

Markie has consistently brought great DJ talent to the City of San Francisco. edIT (a brief history) ~

Originally one of the four resident DJ's at the now defunkt Konkrete Jungle Los Angeles, along with Hive, Daddy Kev, James Tai and mic rockers Busdriver, Mikah 9 and P.E.A.C.E. they tore this shit up and showed Los Angeles what the fuck is up. Things change a few years later he drops the now classic "Crying Over Pros for No Reason" on µ-Ziq's Planet-Mu imprint. A downtempo love-makers' epic about opportunities lost. Since the Mu record he has shifted gears towards the dancefloor and remixed Daedelus' "Dumfound" for Plug Research which has become a party rockin' classic. edIT is working on a new album for Alphapup Records that is nothing but straight jiggafried heat. Laura ~ El Circo

I am just trying to do the best that i can......i want to free my mind.... i am here to honor life......in playing the human ego game, i never want to forget the importance of existence and all the beautiful creatures we co-exist with. what really matters is what's written in the heart, not what's on the page. i never want to forget my heart and i want to help others remember theirs..... so while i am fully emerged in the game, i am also listening to my heart......... so anyway, i LOVE music…i imagine my whole life will be involved with it somehow. i am working on my skills to create what i hear in my head and in my dreams….i probably have a long journey ahead of me but i know it will be a fulfilling one. i grew up with semi “hippie” parents and can't help but be influenced by the genre…. probably more the rockier side of it. as of now i love down and dirty hip hop (but conscious...well...most of the time :) - bassy, glithced out breaks that make no sense - deep, dark mind twisting tech house - sassy ass electro - flattening dub step - rich and grufffff ragga. oh and the most tearful, heart wrenching sounds that one can experience through voice and music......It's such a wonderful, freeing feeling crying to somehting so touching. I love the abstract but find it's a bit harder to dj out. music is a life long passion and i am thankful that it is in my blood……..

Shawna ~ Apsara, El Circo

Shawna's passion for music began in early childhood and throughout while attending the winnipeg music folk festival in manitoba, canada, where she grew up. there, she was exposed to musical genius from all over the planet, which greatly refined her her ear for the subtleties and origins of all types of music. it wasn't until the age of 18 that she took any interest in electronic music, and began persuing mostly world fusion, "down tempo", and ambient. always searching for that same quality of depth in the electronic realm, she has since collected a vast diversity from hip hop/dub/dancehall/world fusion to "idm"/house/tech/electro. she's been dj-ing "out" since 1999.
Always eclectic, her diverse tastes are brought to the dance floor where she aims to find something for everyone in every set, as well as to attend to as many of the emotional/ego realms from sexy to uplifting spirited bliss.

Kitty-D ~ Troubled Youth

Kitty-d started creating music with intention at 7 years old with guitar and keyboards. at 13 he started experimenting with outboard audio equiment and patching cheap keyboards, samplers, drum machines, effects processors, and electric guitars through various recording devices. After going to his first "rave" parties, he was inspired by the possibilities of electronic sounds coming from large quality sound systems, particularly of the subsonic realm. With the evolution of computer audio equipment, he has taken the next step with using computer programs, various outboard equipment and an arsenal library of manipulated and self created sounds to initialize a universe of sonic fiction. He is inspired by all genres of music and particularly glitchy-futuristic-alien-bassy-hop.
Other artists that kitty-d has been happy to collaborate with include: Ooah da turntablist (the seedling escape), Goldilox, Rena Jones, Lux and more. Sounds that are inspired by life, death and the unknown. experimenting with sound waves to incite healing, and general well being ..You can expect Mid-tempo wobbly bass madness with beautiful melodies and breaky glitch-hop styles with live manipulations and surprises.

Stridah- ACKlabs/Nexus/13Moontribe-Santa Cruz

Concieved, born and raised under a large mixing console in a recording studio, Stridah, whose name means drum-machine in boom-chickenese, has been listening to the emotive and sometimes emollient sounds of the human race since day 1.
In the evenings he was lulled to sleep by the buzzing sounds of ungrounded equipment and distortion of old cables, which is a tradition continued today. Today, he is a combination of the racket of the outside world of man, and the conscious thoughts of plant life and mycelial networks of the funguses, who happen to like bass. Please, come ACK with us. www.myspace.com/acklabs

Rob Monroy ~ Santa Cruz

Cool hand Luke ~ Space Ship Gaia -

Cool Hand Luke hails from the barrios of East LA where he first got his start in the seventies being an extra in Cheech & Chong movies and djing before WAR shows. After a mix-up involving a humidor and a prophylactic at a bachelor party, Cool Hand Luke split to Jamaica and got a job as night janitor at the legendary Black Ark studios. Luke accidentally burnt down the Black Ark while cleaning Lee Perry's toy robot collection one night - effectively ending his employment there. Somehow the years he spent there in the dub-infused environment, drinking Tia Maria with Scratch in the hot jungle night altered his body forever. The dub fused with his DNA giving him secret powers to rock the groove fantastic that would serve him well in the years ahead as he battled to defeat stagnant dancefloors. After leaving Jamaica in the early 80s, Cool Hand Luke moved to Detroit where he introduced Juan Atkins to Derrick May and started Detroit techno. Most of the early 90s was spent starting the Wicked full moons, XLR8R magazine, and the legendary Gathering parties. This was in addition to a busy schedule as keyboard player for the Grateful Dead. To this day the Bruce/Vince/Cool Hand with all three keyboardists are the shows most collected by deadheads.       Focusing more on dance music in the late 90s and early 2000s, Cool Hand Luke has been an instrumental part of the breaks scene, coining the word "grime", introducing M.I.A. to Diplo and buying Lorin of Bassnectar his first hair extensions. In addition to the djing extensively, Luke has been kept quite busy doing interpretive dance performances to DJ Brother mixes. In the future he sees himself getting a sex-change and living out the rest of his life as a little British Granny.

El Papachango ~ (El Circo, SF/Ashland)

Half papa, half monkey, really means Universe! Diego Novoa aka El Papachango grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he began his career as sound engineer and dj, tinkering around with speakers and amps at the ripe age of fifteen. In 1997, Diego moved to Ashland, Oregon, where he fell in love with the magic of "La Pacha Mama" (Mother Earth). It was this romance that birthed El Circo, the multimedia production company encompassing performance, music, video, fashion, installations, all underneath the ceiling of a giant geodesic dome and surrounded with Bag End bass. They call him El Papachango because he mixes from a diverse palette of electro, ragga, breaks, and hip-hop, creating a musical journey that has Universal appeal: sassy, playful, suave, and sometimes downright naughty, but always with a spicy Latin flavor.
